Sans Souci

Magnificent houses of character like this were once two-a-penny in Belfast but they are largely disappearing through re-development or by unsympathetic renovations. This fine period townhouse is located in the Malone Conservation area of Belfast near the University and had typical original characteristics of dark and cramped kitchen accommodation at the rear with accumulated outbuildings effectively blocking the house from the back garden/yard areas. We were asked to help with extending the ground floor to provide additional accommodation including a kitchen and dining extension, with a utility/wc, a separate living area and general reorganisation of the upper floors to provide new bathroom and en-suite accommodation. This was achieved with a discrete and sympathetic extension which allowed us to transform the rear kitchen areas into a light filled and practical space.
