A young family needed an additional bedroom and more space to their period semi-detached home in the Stranmillis area of Belfast, together with extensive refurbishment. The existing house was completely “gutted”, and renovated with a full-width extension on the ground floor to the rear providing an extended open-plan kitchen, dining, and living area, all opening onto a south-facing rear garden. A first-floor extension over provided for an additional, “master” bedroom with an en-suite, and a new family bathroom. Improvements to the existing accomodation involved extensive renovation and repairs, including upgrading of insulation throughout to walls, floor, and ceilings, and also acoustic insulation at the party wall with the adjoining semi. We were able to create space at the side to allow a utility room and a ground floor wc.
